Why I’m Done with Notes
I’m changing how I use Substack. I’ve decided to stop posting on Notes and will focus solely on blogging here instead.
My account is effectively hidden on the platform. Posting to Notes feels like writing in a diary that no one reads, which is what you want when you write in your diary, not when you post on “social” media. The same goes for my blog—although a few people see it, the engagement is nowhere near what it should be. I have nearly 900 subscribers, yet the interaction hasn’t changed since I had around 100.
I’ll continue to blog because I have four paid subscribers, and I appreciate their support. My income from this is shown in the screenshot…
…If you had a job that paid this well, would you feel bad about adjusting how you do it? I’m not quitting—just choosing a healthier and less frustrating way to continue.
Using Notes to promote my work only reminds me of how restricted visibility has become, and that’s not good for my peace of mind. I don’t think there’s much more to say about it. I’m doing this for my well-being.
Feel free to leave a comment or email me at renee at far side of fringe dot ca if you’d like to talk about any of this. Thanks for reading.

Completely understandable.
