Dear Premier Iain Rankin,
I am writing this letter with regards to the term “new normal.” I am noticing that in announcements made to the public by yourself and Dr. Strang we are being told that we will soon be living in a new way, what is termed a “new normal.”
This is a clear indication under this government there is no plan to return to the way of life prior to the start of the COVID19 pandemic, where we had agency and choice in how we lived our lives. The “new normal” appears to be a way of life where the government intrudes on my existence, coercing me to receive medical treatments whether I want them or not.
The “new normal” seems to be about forcing me to cover my face, which does not allow me to have any meaningful connection with the people who live in my community. We cannot smile at each other, we cannot have clear conversations, only muffled conversations. My breathing is smothered, my nose is crushed, and manufacturers of masks are quite happy, no doubt.
The “new normal” appears to be an existence where we must continually be tested, regardless of showing any symptoms. At this time there is one test, in the future as the “new normal” takes hold, how many new tests will be pushed onto us.
Needless to say, I do not want to live in this “new normal.” I also think I am not the only one who feels this way. Please stop pretending that this “new normal” is anything other than a gross intrusion of the fundamental rights and freedoms that are guaranteed under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Sincerely,
Renee
