In this presentation made by Yoshinori Osumi in 2017, a couple of concepts stood out to me.
audio here for those not using the app:
The presentation was about his research into autophagy. He also spoke about how he made his discoveries and what is important for there to be more discoveries like his.
He says there is a lack of interest, in the scientific community, into the degradation phase of autophagy. At 40 minutes and 50 seconds into the talk he says “also not so many people are interested in the degradation process and the degradation product by autophagy, so we want to know about this process, and without this kind of data, we cannot say really the physiological meaning of autophagy.”
He ends the presentation with this message starting at 44 minutes and 56 seconds in, he says “I want to emphasize my whole work was just curiosity driven research, I never thought the autophagy field would be related to cancer or the many many other kinds of diseases — this research is now quite a popular field — autophagy research. So I want to
emphasize that curiosity driven research is very important, in the end this is a message for the young generation from me.”
Here are some of my thoughts on these 2 statements by Yoshinori:
Lack of interest on Degradation
Why isn’t there interest in the degradation process and product? Yoshinori speculates elsewhere that people are not interested in this because it is viewed as a negative thing when things break down. I think that is a fair conclusion to make.
I just want to add though that I think there is a lack of interest in this phase of autophagy because many people, funding the research don’t care about natural processes, they just want to know how to exploit the mechanism.
They want to know which genes are used in the process because they want to make injections that will initiate the process instead of letting everyone know about how simple and inexpensive this mechanism is.
You don’t need to buy anything. (except electrolytes can be helpful)
You don’t need to inject anything or swallow anything.
You only need to learn about how to fast safely. There are many sources that will explain that to you.
I was speaking to my brother about it yesterday and he was saying he was interested in fasting. He said he wanted to just eat bread and drink water, as a fast. Which goes to show how lacking we are on information about this process. Carbohydrates, like bread will stop the fasting process, and therefore they will not allow autophagy to happen.
Curiosity in Science
There is a lack of curiosity in science, and I want to submit that this directly ties back to an earlier post I had made… (keep scrolling after the link for the rest of the article)
Dominance Hierarchy
Hierarchies are natural and happen in all animal relationships, including with human beings. Denis Rancourt PhD, who in my opinion has been right all along on many things about COVID 19 recently had an excellent interview with Alex Jones. In this interview he insisted on telling Alex that
….since we are animals, we often see that science is just another aspect used to dominate others. It is an unfortunate fact.
As a result of this, I try to stay open and curious.
In my own experience it makes sense to listen to your intuition, and to carefully observe the effects of a process, by experiencing it yourself. It is unlikely that we will see that curiosity will ever be truly celebrated because it doesn’t make powerful people more powerful. It is usually a threat to their power to promote curiosity. Hence the term “trust the experts”.
Lately I have been fasting more. I am able to do this because I am not underweight or on any medications.
For anyone who is pregnant, underweight, or on medications — fasting would require more caution. It is probably not recommended at all specifically for pregnant women, or underweight people. If you are a diabetic, it can be beneficial, but it might require that you adjust the medications that you are using because it will definitely affect the hormone insulin.
Since I have been fasting more — for me, usually it has been one meal a day — I am feeling and seeing the benefits. There is no doubt in my mind, based on my experience that this is the simplest, cheapest and most effective treatment for many, if not most diseases. I don’t expect that many medical doctors would approve, because they have a conflict of interest.
Thanks for reading!
It makes a lot of sense Renee.
