Feel free to copy paste and adapt this letter and send to the Senators. Some of the Senators have a reply that they will not accept letters that under certain conditions, for example their reply says this:
Where the Senator is copied into correspondence with multiple other parliamentarians or organizations;
· Not addressed directly to the Senator; and
· That are part of mass petitions or campaigns.
I make sure to send them another email with the name added into the email. For example, Pierre J Dalphond didn’t think my email was important if it wasn’t addressed directly to him. Ok, here you go Pierre.
Also also put your full name, your full address, and phone number on any email or letter. This goes a long way to showing that you are serious. A phone call would help too. You can find all their email/contact info here. Senators Contact Information
Dear Senator Pierre J. Dalphond, April 2nd 2023
I don’t trust the government.
I don’t want to pay the government any more.
Recently the senate returned Bill C11 with amendments including an amendment which would prohibit the government from extending regulations to social media posts.
Previously the government servants insisted that C11 was never going to be used in this way.
Throughout the last 3 years Social Media has placed limitations on what could be posted on their own platforms. The government never spoke in my defence, that the Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees freedom of expression.
But now when asked to amend this bill to protect my freedom of expression they reject this amendment.
“if violating freedom of expression means ensuring that Quebec content is well represented online then that's worth it" Andréanne Larouche government servant from Quebec
Does the government think that after they pass this bill and freedom of expression is further removed that I will trust them more? Sadly I will not and this just makes clear the level of desperation and ignorance of the government of Canada.
I hope that you will take this opportunity to reject this bill in its entirety. It should be clear to you by now that this bill at its core is about removing freedom of expression. Only bad things come from this sort of draconian government nonsense.
Sincerely
Renee
