I just want to be completely responsible for my brand. So I might have to leave substack. If someone is going to make me look bad, it has to be myself, not an impersonator, or whatever that is.
But they're able to go around substack making me look like s*** and I can't even see them doing it. So I don't know if I can stay here under these conditions. Interferes with my ability to communicate if someone can pretend to be me and I'm not able to see them doing it so I'm not able to comment on them doing it or report them doing it you know. it's really not something that works for people who are trying to communicate.
Just kidding, that’s what it looks like when a user sets his/her account to hide likes. Some people do that so that their likes don’t clutter up other people’s feeds.
So, what exactly happened? They created a fake account that looks like you, but they blocked you, so you can't see what they are doing (while they impersonate you)?
It could be used as a plot to get people to "validate their account." Kind of like blue checks on Twitter/X.
I suspect that you are right, they are trying to roll out the validated accounts, to shut people down.
It's a really long story actually. A lot of twists and turns. It does seem like whatever is going on with this impersonation is that it adapts to my noticing it. When it first showed up, I could see it easily. Then it became hidden. I think I will try doing some screen recordings to show what I see more clearly, and I will post that in a future post.
Almost like they are creating doubles of everything so who would know which things are the real deal. Almost as if Substack itself is doing it if you can’t click on it right?
You may not be the only one. As long as I’ve been in SS—roughly 18 months—I’ve read many longform articles that, as I clicked “like” and my icon appeared at the bottom, the *author’s name was also there, having liked ehat looked like their own post. I wondered, “Did you really like your own post?”, and now realize there may be bots or imposters; worse, can or would they troll writers that way? I do think much of what we see around us is blatant trolling.
There was a day around March 15 that the comments and likes on the notes were going totally crazy. A lot of writers were talking about it. Is it still happening?
Yes that would really make a difference if they would correct that. I know when I look at my own post I am allowed to see everyone who likes the post except for my impersonator which reads one other reader and when I scroll my mouse over that it doesn't allow me to click on it.
Thank you I very much appreciate that you restacked it and liked it because yeah this is not going to make substacklook good if they can't fix these glitches, if that's what they are, because in the end I just can't be here while someone else is able to impersonate me and I can't even see them doing it, so they could go and post something that I would never post and that is not okay because then I could be accused of something that I didn't do, like something illegal.
You must be hitting a sore spot, Renee.

I doubt the impersonator will get many readers.

no, my mom is on here and she is visible to me. But good one! 😂
This might be part of something bigger.

Yes exactly 💯
